OPEN EVENING – MEET THE TEACHERS Thank you to the parents who attended – what a great year it will be with your support.
All parents should have received a copy of our “A-Z Parent Handbook” and Student Behavior, Internet Safety, and Computer Use Agreements should be returned to school immediately.
SCHOOL ASSESSMENT February is a busy month with school wide testing. Assessment data is being collated with reference to the National Standards. Our Young achievers and Sports Academy will start in March.
FRIENDS OF THE SCHOOL We need you! We would like to start a new group of supporters of the school. Rutherford has not had such for a number of years and it would be very beneficial to the school community. Parents who would like to join together on a regular basis to plan and action support for the school – fundraising, marketing and organization of our reunion – 50th Jubilee in 2013. If this sounds like you, please attend a meeting next Wednesday 2nd March at 6pm at Rutherford. PLEASE JOIN US
SCHOOL FEES Payable now at the office. $80 per year or $20 per term. Please help us with your donation to school. The funding we receive from the Ministry is minimal, and we really appreciate any extra money to help with extra curricular activities. SCHOOL BANK ACCOUNT Our account number is 02-0792-0018742-000. If paying fees of any kind to school, please use your child’s name as a reference.
SCHOOL CANTEEN We are a Health Promoting School. We endeavor to provide healthy alternatives at the canteen. Please support us. We are still receiving “fruit in schools” twice a week.
HEALTH PROMOTING SCHOOLS Kia ora koutou katoa.
My name is Pania Millar and I am the Health Promoting Schools Advisor. My role is to support your school on its journey to becoming a Health Promoting School.

As part of this journey we would like to establish a Health Team. We already have two enthusiastic Teachers and now we are looking for some enthusiastic students and supportive parents to be part of this team. So if you are interested please contact the school office.
SCHOOL NURSE Our Public Health Nurse is Erica Tamehana - Phone 34 83154. Erica visits us fortnightly and you are welcome to make contact with her. Immunizations for year 7 boys and girls (booster) will be later this term. Consent forms will be sent home. Year 7 students had their vision tested last week. A catch-up will be held later in the year.
HPV – for year 8 girls only We will hold an information session for parents/caregivers of year 8 girls. Please accompany your daughter to this meeting. This will be in the school auditorium on Tuesday 1st March at 9:30am. Consent forms will be available at this time.
SICK STUDENTS We have had several cases of a “tummy bug” since the start of the year. If your child shows any symptoms, please keep them home from school for 2 days.
HEAD LICE We have had an outbreak at school. Please check your child’s hair regularly and treat if necessary. If you need assistance contact the school office.
UNIFORM We have all sizes of maroon polo and navy T shirts in stock. Please ensure your child is in correct uniform and has correct PE uniform – navy T shirt and PLAIN black shorts. Students must change for PE.
LUCKY BOOKS Encourage your child to read. These books are available every month. Your child will have the catalogues from school. The school library benefits from these book sales.
SCHOOL STATIONERY All students require stationery in order to achieve at school. Please ensure your child has the necessary items. We have full stationery packs for sale - $45.
STUDENT DIARIES These are an important communication tool between school and home. Ask your child to show you each night.
All students must have a diary, they are $5 each, please send the money to your child’s teacher or pay at the office.
HATS Sun hats are compulsory for terms 1 and 4. Please ensure your child brings their hat / cap to school every day. Students without them will be required to stay under the shelter during recess. Sun block would be an ideal addition to the school bag.
SCHOOL PHONE This is to be used by students in an emergency only – i.e. not for forgotten lunch or PE gear. Please ensure your child has all the requirements for school, and that after school arrangements are made before your child leaves for school.
AFTER SCHOOL TRAFFIC Please ensure that you follow the road code and show a little courtesy. WE HAVE HAD SOME “NEAR MISSES” already this year. Please talk to your child about road safety if he/she is riding a bike to school. Bike helmets are compulsory.
